Biography[]


Inheritor of his family's Kodokan dojo and the captain of Otsu Terakado's Imperial Guards, the fanclub for a famous idol in Edo. For a character in the world of Edo where everybody seems to be very unique, Shinpachi is rather ordinary. For this reason, his most powerful ability is that of roasting others. Even after having been made stronger by countless battles, Shinpachi is still the master of mockery.

Shinpachi and his sister Tae Shimura inherited their father's Kodokan dojo after he died. Though he never gave up his spirit and honor as a samurai, in a world ruled by the Amanto in which swordsmen were outlawed, Shinpachi had no choice but to survive by performing manual labor. In one memorable clash with the Amanto at a restaurant, Gintoki, who was there gorging himself on chocolate parfait, helped Shinpachi out. Their fates have been intertwined ever since.
...Well, perhaps helped is overly generous phrasing. In reality, it's because of Gintoki that Shinpachi was fired, and he finally decided to work in the Odd Jobs.

Shinpachi is proud of his sharp wit. But overall, his most known feature is his glasses after removing them, he becomes an emotionless, plain-faced master of roasting. You could say that he is a pair of glasses on a human body.

Shinpachi has been striving to become stronger since joining the Odd Jobs, though his performance is usually nothing to write home about. He hopes that his sister will be happy, that Otsu who inspired him will succeed, and that he will protect his companions.


Having unexpectedly come to El Sallia, the three of them must try to return to Edo by unorthodox means. Shinpachi will not only play an important role in this, but may even be the crux of it all.
