Langrisser Re:Incarnation Tensei is a spinoff game of the main Langrisser series released in 2015 for the Nintendo 3DS. It tells the story of Ares Lovina, who becomes entangled in a conflict between three warring factions.
The story begins with a town aflame and under attack from the merciless Imperial Army. In the middle of the fire, Ares Lovina stumbles into a church and finds the legendary Langrisser sword. Using Langrisser, he manages to push back the army and liberate what's left of his home village. Setting off with the survivors on a journey to put an end to the conflict, Ares teams up with members of the armies of light and darkness, along with the imperial forces — choosing who to side with at various points in the story sends him down different paths.
It marks the series' return after a long hiatus, though it was developed by Extreme Co., Ltd. rather than the original team at Masaya Games. It aimed to revive the classic series' appeal, but received mixed reviews, with critics citing its dated mechanics and underwhelming production quality compared to other modern tactical RPGs.
